For years, Bladt Industries has prepared itself to move into the US Offshore Wind Market. Bladt Industries is delighted and proud that Vineyard Wind has chosen Bladt Industries as the supplier for fabrication and delivery of an offshore substation, a key component of the first US utility-scale offshore wind project – Vineyard Wind.
Bladt Industries has the experience and proven track record in the offshore wind industry needed to help launch a new industry in the United States.
"We are honoured that the owners and partners behind Vineyard Wind have chosen Bladt Industries as supplier. This is a stepping stone for Bladt Industries into the US offshore wind market, which is a market with tremendous potential. We see this contract as a prerequisite for developing a future platform for collaboration in the US market. We are looking forward to develop our offerings together with local fabricators and partners in the US over the coming years offering our unique experience from the offshore wind business", says Klaus Steen Mortensen, Chief Executive Officer of Bladt Industries
Bladt Industries has contributed to the development of the offshore wind market from the very beginning and has over the years established fabrication in a number of countries based on deep knowledge of heavy steel fabrication. Bladt Industries intends to embed and use these experiences in relation to the US market and will use the Vineyard Wind project as a stepping stone to establish a foot print in the US market as well.
“The offshore substation is the heart of the offshore wind farm allowing the wind farm to connect to the grid. Bladt Industries will utilize the local supply chain in terms of supplies, consultancy and implementation. Bladt is engaging local companies as partners or sub-suppliers and sees this as a vital part of our strategy and development for our presence in the US Offshore Wind Market”, says Nils Overgaard, Chief Sales Officer at Bladt Industries.
The contract is an EPC contract covering the engineering, procurement and construction of a 3,000 ton offshore substation and a 1,500 ton jacket foundation. Bladt Industries will execute the project in close cooperation with Semco Maritime and ISC Engineering. The design is already underway by ISC Engineering and the electrical system will be performed by Semco Maritime.
Vineyard Wind’s 800 MW Offshore Wind Farm will be sited approximately 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 35 miles off the coast of the Massachusetts mainland. Once operational, it will provide enough clean, renewable electricity to power more than 400,000 homes.
