Semco Maritime along with long lasting partners Bladt Industries and ISC Consulting Engineers secured the delivery of the two first offshore high voltage transmission substations for the US offshore wind market by concluding a contract with Vineyard Wind in early 2019 and with Mayflower Wind in early 2020. The partners added WSP USA as an instrumental part of the team to ensure local requirements are integrated into the design and execution thereby marrying competences from two decades in European offshore wind with knowledge of local practices, codes and standards.
While delivering on these contracts, Semco Maritime has now delivered on an initiative to drive forward the development of a best practice library to capture learnings from these actual projects and concluding on findings and lessons learned related to US codes and standards for offshore wind use.
The content of the library reflects how offshore wind power transmission systems, which are very industry-specific by nature, can be safely developed and executed with low risk in terms of regulatory compliance.
